“We want a refuge where we can play as hard as we work.” From volleyball and tennis to competitive swimming and kayaking, this active family dreamed of spaces that encouraged play, set the stage for competitive fun, and brought friends together for good food.

Their Michigan cottage style house is beautifully situated between Lake Michigan on its western edge and a natural ravine to the north. To take advantage of the large property and spectacular views, we created several unique outdoor rooms. A large ipe deck with a fire element and spa creates the perfect elevated space for relaxing and viewing the lake. Nearby, an outdoor kitchen complete with pizza oven, bbq, sink and dining counter is the natural gathering spot for hungry competitors as they eat and recount the triumphs of the day. Along the ravine edge and entry to the property, a sunken tennis court allows plenty of room for play without interrupting beautiful views of woodland and lake.
